About Carly

Carly Jurman is a performing artist working across several disciplines. Drawing on her training in clown, devising, physical and musical theatre, dance and acting Carly brings a unique blend of playfulness and rigor to every project.

She writes, directs, choreographs, produces and performs original and adapted works for theatre for young audiences (TYA) — creating high-energy productions driven by big ideas, bold choreography, and physical performance. Her family-friendly shows aim to delight and engage family audiences with theatre that’s smart, silly and surprising.

Carly also creates performance rooted in clown. Her work in this realm is physical, gutsy, and often delightfully absurd — exploring the awkward, the grotesque and the beautifully broken. Her solo show Unlovable was nominated for a 2019 Offie (Off-West End Award) for Best New Show in the Off-Fest Category.

As well as creating work, Carly acts as a freelance actor and choreographer having performed and worked in many TYA productions, book musicals, and experimental works.

In addition, Carly can sometimes be found roaming the drag and nightlife scene as Pwyneth Gwaltrow, an unhinged diva of questionable wellness and undeniable charisma.

Though all of these artistic practices are distinct and can be viewed as separate entities, they are united by Carly’s core values: to entertain and bring bold, ridiculous, silly and thought provoking theatre to audiences.

Carly is a graduate of the M.A. Theatre Lab at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, UK (2019), additionally studied acting at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and has extensive training with premier theater practitioners at the Celebration Barn Theater where she works as Project Coordinator.
